Later, around the year 1901, Krommaluang Sapphasittiprasong, the governor of Ubon Ratchathani, promoted the the Candle Festival Ubonratchathani (Thailand) to be a special cultural event of the area.
The local people supported him and celebrated the Candle Festival Ubonratchathani (Thailand) every year. From 1979 on, His Majesty King Bhumipol has given a royal candle to lead the candle procession of the Candle Festival Ubonratchathani (Thailand).
After the procession, government officials and the people of Ubon Ratchathani would present the royal candle to the local royal temple in the Candle Festival Ubonratchathani (Thailand).
To start with, the lead candle graciously granted by His Majesty the KING to Ubon Ratchathani will lead the procession to the temple under royal patronage. However a host of other festive activities are in the waiting.
